Forge and Forest was born from a passion for good design, a love of reclaimed and rustic materials and a desire to craft unique things that are built to last.

Based at the edge of the Northern Fells of the Lake District – a landscape with a rugged beauty, an ancient farming heritage and a rich local history, it is perhaps the ideal place to find inspiration from the natural things around as well as a great resource for interesting materials.

These materials are at the heart of my products, often using reclaimed wood and metal it is possible to create totally unique items which have a depth of character, only possible by exposure to the elements or the passing of time. Many are completely unique in either design or appearance and are often one-off pieces, designed around the particular components I have available at the time. Each one with its own story of where it came from, or what it used to be.

There is a lot of satisfaction in discovering something interesting or unusual, creating a design to incorporate it, then making it into a finished item.

An added bonus of working this way is a reduced environmental impact as I find a lot of what I need locally and give old items a new life.

Another part of what I do is to work with customers to design and make specific pieces of furniture which they cannot find elsewhere. Sometimes even incorporating their own materials which may have a sentimental value, creating something very personal and unique.
